About Coach Sly
Sylvester Murray is the founder and technical director of the Hall of Fame Basketball Academy. Coach Sly first used basketball to engage his first child, Malachi in 2009. He started the first basketball club in Bradford and made it the largest basketball organization in the region. In the summer of 2015, he partnered with his childhood friend Shaun Cross to host the first Hall of Fame Basketball Academy Summer Camp. The camps grew into spring/summer travel teams and then merged into a full-year training academy. He then put all extra time into the academy.
Now, the academy is a one-stop place for all elementary-aged (Grades 2-8) to be introduced and grow in the game of basketball. We have a dynamic recreational house league called the HBL (Hustle Basketball League) and we have produced some of the most elite teams in the province with our travel teams called the Hall of Fame Hustle.
Sylvester has been a child/youth worker for 15 years, and leading the academy allows him to merge two of his passions. One is teaching, guiding, and mentoring young people. The second is the game he has been passionate about since he was 11 years old.
Coach Sly learned to communicate and inspire young people to embrace the attributes he was strong in. At HOFBA he learned to transfer and empower these attributes to young people. Along with coaching youth basketball for the last 12 years, Sylvester has been reffing with OABO (Ontario Association of Basketball Officials) for 6 years. Sylvester is a team player that believes in mentoring and training youth to reach their highest potential.
Peace & Love.
